god, this is the nerdiest entry i've written yet. it's not geeky but just pathetic in what it says.
So I just beat this game:

It was recommended by someone in the forum somewhere, someplace, something, etc.
It was originally a mystery game for the Famicom Disk System except now it was remade into an SNES game with better songs and pictures. It's a good classic game - it's menu based with options to search an area with your controller, making it feel like a point and click adventure game. It's not bad - the only problem is that the entire time I was playing it, I really felt like I would rather be playing Gyakuten Saiban (if it was out in America) or something like Tsukihime. It feels a bit narrow scoped and a bit limited. For example, you're pretty much set on a path that you have to follow with occasional psuedo-branching options that just lead you to the same place in the end. I really wanted to explore other places, meet up with other people, and maybe get closer to some characters ala dating sim style. Really plunge into the world, explore the place, and really feel like the character. (This is why Shenmue is the greatest point and click adventure/mystery game ever made.) But even so, the story was solid with good twists that were slightly predictable but handled with such flair that it was all the more dramatic when it did happen. The art was also really well done - with very few frames and layering effects, they were able to make goregeous backgrounds, animated actions scenes, and talking characters. It was all very cleverly done and beautiful. Three cheers and all that. So yes, go and download the game. I've uploaded it here: http://www.mooglecavern.com/persona/i c/famicom/Famicom%20Detective%20Club%20P art%20II.smc
But damn, I really wanted to tear down that wall the moment I first laid eyes on it. Damned wall! Damn you, Gumpei Yokoi! Stop playing with me!!!
IN ANY CASE, the game also rates you depending on how you go through the game. A personality test as a farewell gift from the remake creators. I thought it was a very heartwarming gift... and so, w/out further ado, here's my assessment:

...
I've never actually "died" in the game while playing... except for one time. I warn you: don't pull Sakura Taisen-y things and put your cursor over places where they shouldn't go - it will kill you. Really. It made me laugh hard.
And also!

God, I can't even kill Ganon with that many hearts! I FAIL AT VIRTUAL GIRL ROMANCING IN THE MIDST OF MURDER CASE SOLVING.

WELCOME TO THE LOLICON!
Overall, I wouldn't mind playing more of these types of games.
We need more serial games in our lives.

In other news, this heat is making me really, really irrate.
It's maddening. Like I could just kill a man.
Well, not really.

LIES!!
get out of my mind, liquid!!
So, before I end, I conclude:
I could really make a game like this. It's inspiring.
I could also really feel the heart of the team that made the game. Hell, the game starts with an emulation of the Famicom Disk System! It plays the little demo of Luigi turning off the lights on the shiny "PRESS START BUTTON" logo while Mario goes to beat him up for doing so. Then when you actually start the game, the intro plays like the original NES game, with midi 3 channel bgm and 3 colored silhouette of the school building... only to change into the title screen you see above with the theme music playing in however many channels the SNES pulls out of its plastic casing. THIS IS SINCERITY IN THE HEART OF THE BEAST. It's devotion/dedication like this to the original game makers that makes me shed a little tear. This isn't inbreeding, this is proper respect and it makes me feel all the more cheesier for liking it.
It's like when I was in elementary school and when it was exactly 4:50, I knew I could always turn on the television and see the Megazord cutting a big evil motherfucking monster and see it blow up all over the city, probably destroying thousands of buildings and lives in the process. But who cares anyway, all the Power Rangers lived in the suburbs anyway, damn yuppies and their juice bar.
So, in the end, what exactly is heart?
In video game land, I would say one aspect of it is reverance to your parents.
For the child only falls off the branches and rolls so far... before it's sent to the hospital. For the impact, you see.
THE END.
